WGIcon Professional Development Conference

WGIcon Professional Development Conference

Calling all indoor instructors, designers, technicians, and administrators! For the first time, WGI Sport of the Arts will host a professional development conference for percussion, winds and color guard staff—all in one location.

The premiere of WGIcon will be in New Orleans from Sept. 6 to 7, 2019. The conference will showcase several motivational speakers who will speak on a wide range of topics, including designing mesmerizing shows, fundraising, starting and developing groups, and running a business. The conference will also feature a demonstration from Cirque du Soleil, whose performers will give design, choreography, and music-selection tips.

In the past, WGI had hosted the successful SpinFest conference for guard. Now that WGI can refocus some of its funds toward “educating the educators,” it wants to be inclusive of all three divisions, says Bart Woodley, WGI director of operations. “[The board of directors] wanted to make sure that all of the divisions are getting equal representation in anything we’re doing corporatewide.”
